Woodland Elementary students at Kingsford launched a Pennies for Paws fund-raising campaign for the month of March to benefit the Springlake Animal Shelter. Students were asked to bring in change to be donated toward building a new animal shelter. With help from Dairy Queen, Domino’s and Pizza Hut, Woodland was able to host a contest awarding the top two classes that brought in the most amount of money. A final award ceremony was held at the Woodland Elementary Gym on March 30, 2007. Accepting a $4,590.54 check were Bill Hardacre, Springlake Animal Shelter Board Chairman; and Shelter Manager Diane Luczak . Wells Fargo was present as well to donate funds from a bake sale held by the bank in conjunction with Woodland’s fund-raiser. Ford Airport also collected coins for the event. Pictured from left are Bill Hardacre and Shadow, Jeff Buckner of Pizza Hut, Woodland Principal Darren Petschar, Woodland teacher Bryan Johnson, Diane Luczak and Brenda, and Isaac Slajus and Harley. All 3 dogs are former adopted shelter dogs.
